STILL A STUMBLING STONE

n Acts 4:11, 12 the Apostle Peter let the Jewish priestly family know that Jesus, whom they had rejected, had become the chief cornerstone of a new spiritual house called the church. Furthermore, salvation was not to be found in any other name than the name of Jesus. Jesus Himself had revealed that truth to the apostles the night before He died. Jesus said to Thomas in the hearing of the rest, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6.)
The
plainly stated truth that salvation is only through the Person of Jesus Christ
and His finished work at Calvary remains a stumbling stone for many today. Instead they choose to believe that there
are many valid ways to God. The exclusiveness
of the gospel that states there is only one way to God is an offense. Some believe that Jesus needs their help to
redeem themselves and they place their faith in a church and sacraments and
their own good works to help Him.
Sadly,
Jesus Christ remains a stone of stumbling (1 Peter 2:8) even today. People have no trouble believing in or
talking about a beneficent God who condemns no one. Sadly, the mention of Jesus Christ crucified as the sole means of
salvation is as offensive today as it was when Paul wrote 1 Cor. 1:23, “But we
preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block, and to the Greeks
foolishness.” Won’t you turn to Jesus
and accept Him as your savior today.
There is salvation in no one else.
